Sarah Ball was born in Natchez, Mississippi in 1978. She attended Denison University where she graduated with a degree in filmmaking in 2001. Sarah’s work has been featured in two solo shows, as well as displayed at Barney’s New York. She currently lives and works in Manhattan.
Working with a large format camera, Sarah returns to Mississippi several times a year to reexamine locations that have been embroidered in her memory since childhood. Oftentimes, she revisits the same stretch of road, abandoned house or crooked tree in order to reconsider the photograph she has made repeatedly. With each visit, her inventory of images grows to include sights that strike her in passing. The use of a viewfinder camera enables her to compose a structure and form she finds beautiful.
